NEGLECT AT IT'S WORST

Please welcome Ginger, a victim of SEVERE NEGLECT

This sweet girl was rescued from a partner shelter in horrible condition. She had large masses hanging from her genital area. Her coat was so matted that she had to be shaved under sedation. Her nails were so long that they were curling into her paw pads. Her mouth was full of rotting teeth. And she was emaciated. We’ve seen a lot of things in our 20+ years of dog rescue, but this level of neglect was shocking to witness.

As soon as we got her, we immediately took Ginger to our vet who ran a number of diagnostic tests and discovered thick fluid in her uterus. Suspecting pyometra (a severe, life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus), our vet scheduled Ginger for emergency surgery the next morning. THANK YOU, Crosspointe Animal Hospital, for changing your surgery schedule to accommodate Ginger’s emergency surgery!

This poor girl had several surgeries—removal of multiple masses in her genital area, spay surgery, and dental surgery. Our vet confirmed she did, in fact, have pyometra, which could have killed her. She also had an emergency dental because she had HOLES in the roof of her mouth from the infection caused by her rotting teeth. She was placed on several different antibiotics and pain medication to treat her multiple infections, including a urinary tract infection. Biopsies of her tumors indicated a rare low-grade cancer, but her surgeon got clear margins so we are hopeful that Ginger will beat the cancer. She will need an ultrasound of her abdomen and uterus in a month to track her progress.

Despite all the suffering this little girl went through, her spirit is bright and loving. We are optimistic about Ginger's future. With medical care, a good diet, and a WHOLE LOT OF LOVE, this precious angel will thrive and have a wonderful new life. Please consider donating toward the cost of her medical care, which is very costly. With your support, we can continue to rescue more dogs like Ginger, for whom we are often the last resort.
