Please Note:
We only adopt to the VA-DC-MD Metro area. Also, we require owner's to provide veterinary references to confirm heartworm and yearly visits are current. Our rescued babies sometimes require experienced dog owners, so we do not adopt to new dog owners for many of our more difficult dogs.
We ask the the children in the household be over 11 to ensure the child's safety. Many of our dogs come in neglected and take months to rehabilitate. We will not risk the safety of a young child even if the risk of biting is minimal.
Note: Before filling the application, please contact us if you crate your dog. Some of the rescue dogs have shown
severe anxiety when crated, or have crate aggression and will bite when trying to place, or remove them from a
crate. Please email us at apply@caringheartsrescue.org to make sure the dog you are interested in has no issues with crating.
Fees: The adoption fee for a baby 0-1 year is $350.00. Babies up to 6 month will have their de-worming's and distemper series covered. Several visits to the doctor occur with many of our babies.
Adult fee is $325.00 for basic cost. $350.00 if we provided the Basic Health Check Certification and a full dental or blood work on top of the regular cost. Most of the vetting we spend ranges from $500 to $1200 dollars.
Please, understand that we are an all volunteer organization so allow up to two weeks to process your application.

Meet Toby! Toby is a gorgeous 5 year year old Bichon/Poodle mix. We've only had him a short time, but we've got lots of great things to say about him. First, he's a sweet doll baby. He gives kisses and wags his tail as happy as can be! He's great on walks and NO accidents so far!! He was recently neutered and had a full dental. More pictures are to come because he is a truly beautiful baby.

Tiny Timmy
Timmy is beyond adorable! He came to us a few months ago in rough shape. Timmy is unable to walk upright due to an old injury to his front legs. Unfortunately, our orthopedic surgeon and doctors feel that trying to correct his legs now would do more harm. He is able to get around and uses the bathroom outside fine on his own. We took him in for his neuter surgery and a full dental. He's currently on a joint supplement and his foster has him on the high quality dry food Fromm. She adds fresh home cooked foods to his dry with some supplements and probiotics. He was very underweight coming in with terrible tear stains and skin issues. His coat is much healthier and with a little more time you won't recognize him from the first days he came in. TT is so interested in other dogs. He loves to get up close to them to see what they are up to. He would love to cuddle and play with another little dog. He eats without issue. His foster mom gives him small carrots for treats and he is overjoyed eating his carrot. He dances around before chewing on it. He loves to cuddle and is 100% sweet. He loves hugs and is very interested about grabbing onto a piece of your hair so you'll have to watch out for this sneaky little fella when giving him big hugs. He'll steal your heart for sure if you see him in action! :)

Currently on Cosequin for the joint health, fish oil, Asian herbs to boost immune system and Angel Eyes to rid extra yeast. Several of these will discontinue after health is back to good state.
Buster
Buster is a cute and lovable 5 year old, 16 pound male Shih Tzu. He is neutered and potty trained to go both outside and inside on potty pads. He loves being rubbed all over and is very low maintenance as far as taking him on walks. He is playful with his stuffed toys and just loves to cuddle up on you. Buster does well with other dogs and he would prefer to live with children older than 5 years of age. Buster is very protective and will let you know if someone is near the door but will love on them once they come inside.
Buster is updated on all of his shots and he had a dental cleaning last year that turned out great. He is also crate trained and loves to sleep in it at night. He also does well with the crate if you decide to travel with him. Please let this cute under bite face love all over you!
Buddy
Meet my handsome boy Buddy, a Lhasa Apso, he is a 1.5 years old and weighs about 20 pounds. He loves to play outside, ride in cars and of course meal time. He is not yappy only barking hello to welcome me home. The perfect home for Buddy is one in which there is an experienced dog adopter (I hate the word owner). He is crate trained as well as house broken. He has not chewed on any of my furniture or things. I have been working with him on training as his former owners didn't think it was important. With 5 minutes a day he now knows sit, down, sit stay, down stay and come. He and I will continue to work on this each day. He is very smart, he just needs an owner who knows how to be the Alfa big dog. LOL. Oh yeah? you have to be willing to rub his belly as he is a lover not a hater. He is neutered and up-to-date on all shots as well as heartworm and flea & tick. If you are interested in adopting this special boy please put in an application.
Mimi
Mimi is a 3 year old Shih Tzu Lhasa mix. She is an adorable little girl with beautiful eyes that look at you with adoration. Very smart, she got into our house routine the first day. Loves to have her tummy rubbed. Completely house trained. She LOVES to take walks and asks to go. I walk both dogs together on a tandem leash and it works beautifully. Mimi is very protective and will be a good warning system when someone comes to the door. She warms up when she gets to know new people, but is very protective when she first meets them. Whatever you are doing, she is lying at your feet waiting for you. She gets along great with new dogs too! Mimi does great in the car and is a sweetheart.
Princess
I am 2 year old Princess (toy poodle) As a matter of fact that is my name! Weighing in at 5.5 pounds. I was born to be in someone's arms. I am a delicate little girl who needs a home without kids under than 12 because i can unintentionally be injured very easily.
I am making progress in housebreaking and walking on a leash. I am good with other dogs, but a big dog could mistake me for a stuff toy!! I was given by my family because they no longer had time for me. I currently go for short walks every few hours. I don't think i could go without a break all day so no long hours away at work for me please! This will save you a big mess!! Please, allow me the pleasure of being a Princess in your Kingdom!! I can't wait to meet you!!

George
Meet George!! George is a Chi-Pin mix we think. He's a sweet little boy who enjoys the company of people. If he's not by your side you will find him resting on his comfy bed. George came from a MD shelter. George enjoys his trips in the car and is a pleasant and easy going little boy. He gets along with people and other dogs and cats. Please, contact us if you think this little boy may be right for you.
Ideal Home- Someone home part of the day or a dog walker because this baby cannot go all day without being let outside for a break like many dogs.

Panda Needs a Long Term Foster!!!

Panda came from a local Backyard Breeder here in Virginia this past October 09'. We're hoping she forgets about her horrible past. We currently have her on the anxiety medications to assist with the positive support her foster mom is giving her. She's coming along slowly, but will need someone experienced and patient to foster or adopt her.

Sweet Pea
What a good name for this baby girl! She couldn't be any sweeter. Sweet Pea is a 6 pound Chi. She is a very quiet and sweet baby! You are not going to find a nicer baby out there! I like everyone, I wag my tail and get so excited they have come to see me..........they did didn't they?
We took her in for her Spay surgery and had a full dental done at the same time. The vet says I am about 5.5 years old. I like to sit at the window and watch what goes on outside and lay in the warmth of the sun. When not by the window I like to get a little cuddle by my guardians and then curl up in a ball and sleep by them. I am good with older kids and fine with other dogs in the home. As long as i have a lap to lay on and love i'm the happiest little girl in the world!! I am potty trained and like to go on walks. Everyone who meets me loves me!!

Mallory
Mallory is a beautiful Shih Tzu mix with loads of character. She is used to going on walks
and eating the best food from her wonderful foster family! She is house trained and loves walks! We hope for her to be loved and cherished forever!! Mallory loves to go on walks and is really a mellow little girl. She's great to travel with in the car. She's the type of dog that sits quietly on a dog be in the room with you. She has a beautiful coat and is used to going to the groomers without issue. Her foster mom just took her in for this beautiful hair cut!! Mallory has stolen the heart of our Rescue group. If you like dogs with silly characters, then Mallory is your gal.

Charlie
Charlie Needs a Long Term Foster!!!
Charlie is a 7 year old male Shih Tzu. He's a laid back boy that is really not to much trouble. He is used to going out short walks a few times a day. He's completely housetrainded and does great in cars. He's very velcro to his guardian so he'll always be by your side. Charlie has a bit of dry eyes, which is not unusual to see in this breed. He needs daily eye drops for this, but his sight is fine. Fostering Charlie would give you a great opportunity to see how he fits into your life. Contact us today.
Best fit would be-
- Someone home part of the day or a dog walker for the afternoon break. This will avoid any accidents. Charlie is completely housetrained though.
- No other male dogs in household please. He gets jealous of other males, but is great with female dogs. He's all bark and no bite, but it still would be a hassle with another male in the house.

Charlie Boy
Meet Charlie! Charlie is an 8 year old Shih Tzu. Charlie will steal your heart for sure.
He has a silly senior personality that is truly endearing. He's a laid back little boy! Charlie has a bit of dry eye that is not uncommon to see in this breed. Eye drops daily will be needed, but he's no trouble with taking the drops. We love this boy and know you will too!!

Peanut
Peanut came from a Backyard Breeder. She came into Rescue a mess. Over the months since her Rescue in the summer, she has progressed greatly. She goes outside to use the bathroom and pee pee pads have been used with her. She's been through several surgeries since her Rescue. Also, a quiet home is more desirable given her past circumstances. Peanut is really a doll and we're sure you will fall in love quickly with like we have. She LOVES being hugged and kissed, but moves on when she's had her fill of cuddles. She'll greet you dancing and waiting for her cuddles every time you see her! She's not so hot about other dogs getting into her space. She's more of a people person kind of dog. Keep this in mind if you want a playmate or buddy for your current dog. She hangs out with other dogs, but is not playful with them. She can go about 5 hours before needing a break outside. She's never shown any type of aggression towards dogs other than being yappy if they try to play with her in “her space.” It's nothing aggressive at all and mostly silly.
Peanut is like a rare gem and we are sure you will agree once you meet her. She is honestly one of the cutest little Shih Tzus we've ever seen. You can't go a day without her doing some cute act that brings a smile to your face. Please, keep in mind the need for a quiet place. Thanks so much!!!! CHR
