Please Note:

We only adopt to the VA-DC-MD Metro area. Also, we require owner's to provide veterinary references to confirm heartworm and yearly visits are current. Our rescued babies sometimes require experienced dog owners, so we do not adopt to new dog owners for many of our dogs.

We ask the the children in the household be over 11 to ensure the child's safety. Many of our dogs come in neglected and take months to rehabilitate. We will not risk the safety of a young child even if the risk of biting is minimal.

Note: Before filling the application, please contact us if you crate your dog. Some of the rescue dogs have shown severe anxiety when crated, or have crate aggression and will bite when trying to place, or remove them from a crate. Please email us at apply@caringheartsrescue.org to make sure the dog you are interested in has no issues with crating.

Fees: The adoption fee for a baby 0-1 year is $350.00. Babies up to 6 month will have their de-worming's and distemper series covered. Several visits to the doctor occur with many of our babies.

Adult fee is $325.00 for basic cost. $350.00 if we provided the Basic Health Check Certification and a full dental or blood work on top of the regular cost. Most of the vetting we spend ranges from $500 to $1200 dollars.

Annie

     I am Annie, a 9 year old toy poodle about 6lbs. I want a lap to warm up and a person to love. I am laid back and do not bark. I like other dogs and am housetrained. No young kids please I am so teeny they make me nervous. I am initially timid but just need a little time to warm up. My mom gave me up as she did not have time for me. Please be my new mom.

Moony

Precious Moony came into Rescue recently. He came in a mess with his eyes completely matted over. We're going to make sure this baby never gets into a neglectful place like that again! We took him in for his neuter surgery with a full dental. Two teeth were removed. He's going to need eye drops daily for his dry eye condition, but he does wonderful with being handled. He's very sweet and would be a great therapy dog. He's very quiet and never barks. He's very a low maintenance baby because he so easy going

Ideal Home- Moony needs some work on a refresher house training so he's best with someone home part of the day. We will work on this. He's already shown a huge improvement in two weeks of keeping him on a schedule.

Casey

Casey just came into Rescue! Casey is a little poodle/Cocker mix. She's 9 weeks old and just had her first shot and de-worming. She's a playful, sweet, bouncy, cutie, barky,
jumpy, kissee little baby. Please, keep in mind this baby needs to be let out every two hours for a break so no long hours away at work will do for her.

Nicki

Meet Nicki--a two and half year old Bichon Frise/Minature Poodle Mix. He is about 19 pounds and is neutered as well as up to date on all shots. We saved this playful little boy from a shelter during the blizzard of 2010, the traffic was horrible but boy when you meet this sweet thing you will understand it was worth it. He gets along well with both my big dogs & small dogs. He loves playing outside in the snow and playing inside with all kinds of dog toys. At night he likes to cuddle up in bed. While it is only been a few days he seems to be house trained! This cutie will need continued training so be prepared for a little work!! If you think you have the commitment to follow through with training, please put in an application today!!

NOTE: Nicki has shown resource guarding aggression when tested. We will start the process of working this out while in foster care. We wil also work with any potential applicant with a trainer and CHR volunteers. Nicki does not show the resource guarding to his foster mom, but he shows the resource guarding to new strangers that try to take bones away from him. This issue can be resolved with positive training, which we will provide to you. Please, understand even if the issue gets resolved, we do not want the dog in a home where young grandchildren will be visiting the home. Please note on the top of the application that you will be willing to work with this issue.

The silly vet thinks I need to lose a tiny bit of weight. But I am a jolly little girl. I am happy, loveable, playful and just an overall good little girl. Jade

Jade is an adorable 6lb Japanese Chin. Jade is shy and we are working on building her confidence. She uses her bed as a home base and security blanket, she will stay in her bed rather than explore.  She does not come on demand and runs from you when outside;we are working on this and she is making progress. She is doing well on her potty training and goes out every 4-5 hours and can go through the night without a mistake. She is used to being supervised and having a stay at home foster mom. Jade loves to play with other little dogs!!! She loves older children (has not had contact with younger ones) is playful,healthy loves toys and has a great appetite.Jade would so best in a home where someone will be home with her most of the time. She needs positive reinforcement as she branches out and begins to explore.  Jade needs an understanding guardian as she continues to learn basic's like house training and coming when called. She must have a fenced yard and if walked on a leash it must be with a secure harness that is tested in the yard first.  A home with other dogs would be fine but she does want her own space while eating her food.  Children would love Jade's playfulness and she would love the attention of gentle older children. A boisterous child would intimidate Jade. She is a wonderful little girl and I have no doubt that in the right home Jade will blossom into the completely self assured clown of a dog the Chin is known to be

Meet George!! George is a Chi-Pin mix we think. He's a sweet little boy who enjoys the company of people. If he's not by your side you will find him resting on his comfy bed. George came from a MD shelter. George enjoys his trips in the car and is a pleasant and easy going little boy. He gets along with people and other dogs and cats. Panda

  Panda came from a local Backyard Breeder here in Virginia this past October 09'. We're hoping she forgets about her horrible past. We currently have her on the anxiety medication Reconcile to assist with the positive support her foster mom is giving her. It's going to take a few months for her foster mom to house train her and assist Panda with bringing out the confidence she desperately needs. We took her in for her spay surgery and a full dental. Bandit

We named this silly little 3 year old girl Bandit as she will steal your heart and the beautiful coloring on her face makes her look like she is wearing a mask. She loves to cuddle and is afraid of nothing. She has been exploring my house, my yard and playing with my four dogs (both big and small). She is so sweet without a mean bone in her body. She was given up by a breeder as her puppies were too large to sell. Little does she know she has been saved from a life in a puppy mill and will live the good life from here on out. She is update on all shots, heartworm and flea and tick; she has even been given a complete dental cleaning when she was spayed. Put in application to meet this sweet girl.

Zeke

Meet Zeke!
He's only a year old year old so he still has a lot of playful energy! He loves to go anywhere with his Guardian! Loves to play, walk and cuddle. Zeke is UTD on his vaccines. Zeke was neutered and we made sure his teeth were shined up so you don't have to worry about any medical being needed.

What a good name for this baby girl! She couldn't be any sweeter. Sweet Pea is a 6 pound Chi. She's very a very quiet and sweet baby!

Mallory

Mallory is a beautiful Shih Tzu mix with loads of character. She is used to going on walks
and eating the best food from her wonderful foster family! She is house trained and loves walks! We hope for her to be loved and cherished forever!! Her foster mom just took her in for this beautiful hair cut!! Mallory has stolen the heart of our Rescue group. She came into Rescue being rushed to the vet for immediate surgery to take out her ruptured eye. It took a long time to heal the emotional scars of that experience, but she's done wonderful and she is finally calmed to a point where she can live out her life in a wonderful and safe home. If you like dogs with silly characters, then Mallory is your gal.

Charlie

 

Charlie is a 6 year old male Shih Tzu. He belonged to a friend of one of the Officers of CHR. He's a special little boy because he was lucky to be loved very much by his past Guardian. Because of this the Officer he was given to promises to make sure this little boy never goes without anything he could ever want or need. We're hoping we can find him a wonderful home where he will enjoy life.

Best fit would be-

- Someone home part of the day or a dog walker for the afternoon break. This will avoid any accidents. Charlie is completely housetrained though.

- No other male dogs in household please. He gets jealous of other males, but is great with female dogs. He's all bark and no bite, but it still would be a hassle with another male in the house.

Meet Charlie! Charlie is an 8 year old Shih Tzu recently rescued from a local shelter.
We immediately took him into our vet and he was in surgery the following morning to remove bladder stones. We made sure he had a full chemistry and urinalysis.
He'll need to stay on eye drops the remainder of his life. He's a great little guy who is sweet as can be.

Nell

Nell is a gorgeous 11year old female Shih Tzu. You would never know her age if i didn't tell you though. She's playful and very active. She LOVES to walk so keep this in mind when applying. Nell is great in a car and very friendly and sweet. She will steal you heart for sure!!! Nell is in GREAT health!!

Louie

Louie came from a Maryland shelter. He was in horrbile condition when first rescued!!
He was severly emaciated and could hardly stand on his own. You could hardly look at him without tears coming to your eyes. He had a lot of hair loss due to the mange covering his body. His eyes were shut due to infection. He was a total train wreck!

We took him in and placed him on medications and let him rest and eat well to gain his
strength. We took him to Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates to have a full heart workup done. Luckily, Louie doesn't need any medications! We had him neutered with a full dental when his weight was good. We made sure that he had a full blood chemistry with a urinalysis to make sure he didn't need any further diagnostics completed.

NOW LOOK AT LOUIE-

Louie is a gorgeous little man now. We made sure to keep on a high quality diet with supplements to get him in good condition. A good fish oil and joint supplement is part of his daily diet and you can see the improvement in his coat!! Louie has stolen our hearts.
He loves to to be cuddled like a little baby! He is gentle and mild mannered. He's a perfect
gentleman! He goes outside and is wonderful with his housetraining. He's very low maintenance and sleeps a good part of the day. He's perfect for someone who wants a mellow dog! Louie has a heart of gold and we're sure you will see how special he is when meeting him. We will make sure that Louie never suffers again like he did prior to his rescue. We've rescued a lot of dogs in our lives, but I have to say that Sandy is one of the sweetest Shih Tzu's I 've come across. She is happy with glee to snuggle with her guardian. She's a true joy and we love her dearly. She's 6.5 years old.

Sweetie

Words from foster-Jan -2010' -Sweetie is progressing. She's been in my care for many many months now, but things seem to be getting better. We have her on a anxiety medication to help her relax. She's going out and about now and meeting new experiences. She's learning to trust people. Walking on a leash is progressing nicely. More news to come!

Temperament: Sweetie has been in the rescue many months now. When she came into Rescue she would lay flat on her belly and pee if approached. I'm glad to say that she's over that issue now!!! Her foster mom thinks the world of her. Sweetie has a gentle spirit that will warm your heart. She's house trained now and is learning to walk on a leash and to trust new people. We have her on a drug called Reconcile to assist with her emotional support with her training. She will probably be coming off that soon now and moving to holistic aids. Please, understand that she will only be adopted out to a very experienced applicant that will never raise her voice to Sweetie. She does well with positive reinforcement training. Sweetie is a little Angel and we only want the very best for her. Thanks so much for your time!

Sweetie is used to sleeping in a crate in her Foster's room at night. She has free run of the house during the day. She is the type of dog that would love to be by her Guardian all day if she had HER choice!! :)

Mini

Mini's foster mom adores her!!! She's already grown very attached to precious Mini!
Mini came in a tad matted, but is all fluffy and free from those painful mats!
She's the type that will follow her Guardian around and enjoys to be pampered and fussed over. She won't do well with sudden movements so no kids please for safety reasons. SHe would do great with someone home part of the day or a dog walker to avoid any accidents!
